Luanda - The ruling MPLA party reiterated Saturday its unconditional commitment to defence of the national heroes achievements, mainly of those involved in the attacks on the Portuguese Colonial ( PIDE-DGS) prisons in Luanda.
The party’s position is expressed in a declaration released by its Politburo, ahead of celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the beginning of the armed struggle for national liberation on February 4.
The attacks took place at dawn on February 4, 1961, aimed to free Angolan nationalists engaged in the struggle for National Independence.
In the document, which ANGOP had access to today, the ruling party in Angola "effusively salutes" the architects of the 4th of February for "such a sublime event".
In the declaration, the Political Bureau of the MPLA also hails the heroes of the 4th of February for their selfless and patriotic dedication in the process of the national liberation struggle.
It stresses the fact that the aforementioned process led the "MPLA to the proclamation of National Independence on November 11, 1975", to achieve the "defence of territorial integrity, the conquest of peace, reconciliation and national unity".
The MPLA Political Bureau takes advantage of the occasion to appeal to Angolans to celebrate the date with love for the country and dedication to work.
It stresses the importance of paying tribute to the heroes of the 4th of February with "a spirit of promoting Peace, Development and reinforcing actions aimed at educating the new generations" about the history of the Angolan people.
In the statement, released today, the MPLA reiterates its gratitude for the vote of confidence that the Angolan People granted in the last electoral process, to President João Lourenço and to the Party.
It reaffirms the "commitment to work with everyone for the effective materialisation of the actions of the 2022-2027 Government Programme, under the sign of peace and development".
