Luanda - Angola’s ruling MPLA party reiterated Monday its commitment to stability, development, the well-being of Angolans, with peace, reconciliation, forgiveness, tolerance and respect for difference.
The pledge came from the party’s parliament group during the 8th Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the 1st Legislative Session that approved the Draft Law amending to Value Added Tax Code (VAT) and the Statute of Former Presidents and Vice Presidents in general terms.
"It's time to tell all compatriots, who truly want to make a country, to join hands, work together for better days to come", said the leader of the MPLA Parliamentary Group, Virgílio de Fontes Pereira.
In the political statement, the MP said "at a time when we need to be focused and united in addressing pressing issues we face, our opponents give priority to a narcissistic agenda and greed for power, disregarding the most important thing, such as the capacity for repentance and asking for forgiveness for the mistakes committed".
In his speech Fontes Pereira slammed the political parties, which, according to him, believe in witches, also believe that freedom and democracy are incompatible with humility, stability, respect, peace, reconciliation with the past and history.
Support for the President of the Republic
Virgílio de Fontes Pereira reaffirmed, before the Plenary, the unconditional support of the MPLA Parliamentary Group for the President of the Republic, in reaction to a claim by UNITA to formalise a process of dismissal of the Holder of Executive Power, in the Parliament.
"The MPLA Parliamentary Group reiterates, here and now, its unconditional support for President João Lourenço and declares loud and clear, there will be no removal of the President of the Republic democratically elected by the majority of Angolans (...)", he stressed.
The politician accused the opposition UNITA of resorting to all kinds of expedients, including slandering the country abroad, with international institutions, in a vain attempt to tarnish the image of Angola, its President and its Executive, to harm its projection, for whom this attitude "well configures the wolf disguised in sheep's clothing".
He added that the way in which some prefer, in an outrageous way, to destroy what was built with a lot of sacrifice, "denotes irresponsibility, immaturity and recklessness, which can only be generated by judgments shaped by extreme greed and anxiety for the moment that has not arrived".
The MP also expressed his party’s commitment to defend, along with the Executive, the creation of new employment and business opportunities for young people, the right to education and teaching, culture, recreation and sport which contribute to their stability as well as for the crystallization of their will and joy of living.
He appealed to the population not to "fall into the hands of those who, with false promises and cunning speech, take advantage of the difficulties, by manipulating them for their goals".
The MPLA elected the deepening of democracy, the timing and institutionalisation of the Local Governance, the economic development model, without prejudice to the ideological conceptions of each citizen or political party, the social model, in particular education and health services in a territorial distribution perspective and as factors of national cohesion and social stabilisation.
"These are just a few examples of topics that can be discussed as "major national themes" and that can help, with their conclusions, to enrich the content of the Long-Term Strategy - Angola 2050", said Virgílio Fontes Pereira.
In turn, Liberty Chiaka, who spoke on behalf of the opposition UNITA party, acknowledged the motivational incentive of the National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, on a balanced, cordial and, above all, promoting leadership of consensus in the Parliamentary year that ends.
In his speech, the MP criticised the government policies, for whom "the Executive has not been able to find a lasting solution that brings stability to interest rates, the exchange rate and the inflation rate".
The leader of the UNITA parliamentary group once again insisted, before the MPs, on the process of dismissing the President of the Republic, considering such assumption "an act of political maturity and patriotic courage".
The leader of the UNITA parliamentary group demanded, at the time, an audit of the Integrated Financial Management System (SIGFE), the public debt, the General Tax Administration (AGT) and the sale process of the Bank of Commerce and Industry (BCI).
On the other hand, deputy Benedito Daniel of the joint PRS/FNLA parliamentary group, welcomed the scheduling of the discussion and the vote, in general, on the proposal to change the value added tax (VAT).
