Luanda – The MPLA last Monday expressed dismay at the death of Irene Agostinho Neto, aged 97 due to illness.
In a condolence note the MPLA says that Irene Neto had a life guided by the demonstration of recognized conduct of education, moral and ethical integrity, as well as love for the country and the ideals of the party that she joined in her early age.
The ruling party in Angola also states that Irene Neto was notable, among several actions, for the support given to fellow Angolan political prisoners and to MPLA militants residing in the cities of Leopoldville, then Belgian Congo and Kinshasa, currently the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“Irene Agostinho Neto served the party and the Organization of Angolan Women (OMA) of which she was one of the mainstays for its consolidation, with an undeniable sense of edification, defense and preservation of a just and prosperous nation, allied to her sense in favor of inclusion and equality among all Angolans”, it is written in the message.
Irene Neto was born in Kaxikane municipaliy, on 21 February 1925.
