Luanda - The President of the ruling MPLA João Lourenço announced Monday in Luanda that adjustments will be made to the party's statutes during its 8th Extraordinary Congress scheduled for December 16 and 17.
The party’s leader made the statement at the opening of the 7th ordinary session of the MPLA Central Committee which, among other things, will ratify the documents to be submitted to the conclave.
João Lourenço recalled that in the history of the MPLA, in addition to several ordinary congresses held every five years, the party has so far held seven extraordinary congresses, five of which, namely in December 1980, April 1991, May 1992, April 2011 and June 2019 that made adjustments to the party's statutes.
“Next December's congress will therefore be the sixth time that the party has made adjustments to its statutes at an Extraordinary Congress,” Lourenço said.
Among the documents to be submitted is the indicative schedule of actions for the congress under the theme “MPLA - from Independence to Our Days: The Future Challenge”.

The MPLA leader congratulated the new National First Secretary of the JMPLA, Justino Capapinha, and the members of the National Committee, for having earned the trust of the Congress delegates to lead the party's youth organization for the next five years.
According to João Lourenço, the fact that the first national secretary of the JMPLA sits on the Secretariat of the party’s Political Bureau reflects the importance that the MPLA attaches to the youth organization and to young Angolans in general.
“If on one hand they are to be congratulated for the trust they have placed in them, on the other hand they need to be fully aware of the weight of the responsibility that falls on their shoulders. We are certain that the leadership emerging from this ninth ordinary congress of the JMPLA is up to the enormous challenges facing Angolan youth,” Lourenço said.
João Lourenço praised the responsible attitude of the losing candidate (Adilson Hach) who recognized and congratulated the candidate elected by the congress.
“Young as he is, he still has many opportunities ahead of him to make his way both in the JMPLA itself and in the party,” said the MPLA leader.
To the outgoing national first secretary, João Lourenço addressed a word of appreciation and recognition from the party for his commitment and dedication to the cause of youth during his time at the head of the JMPLA.
