Luanda - Angola’s ruling MPLA party has stressed the achievements of the retired Archbishop of the central Huambo province Francisco Viti, with stress to his sermons on permanent fight for the well-being and social justice.
The party’s politburo expressed the recognition on Tuesday in a message of condolences for the death of Archbishop Francisco Viti, on 15 April in Luanda, due to a road accident occurred on February 19 this year.
The church authority was on his way back from a pastoral mission in the south-east province of Cuando Cubango, when the accident occurred.
The Politburo of the Central Committee of the MPLA expresses deep regret over the death of the prelate.
“At this time of pain and mourning, on behalf of all MPLA militants, sympathisers and friends, the Politburo sends deep condolences to the family and the Board of the Catholic Church”, the message reads out.
Born in the coastal province of Benguela, Bishop Francisco Viti was ordained
a priest on July 14, 1963. In August 1975, he was appointed by Pope Paul VI as the first bishop of the diocese of Serpa Pinto, in the current province of Cuando Cubango.
