Luanda - The Polititburo of the ruling MPLA party reiterated, this Saturday, its commitment to preserving the politico-ideological thinking of the first President of Angola, Agostinho Neto.
In a declaration alluding to the National Hero's Day, which is celebrated today (17), the MPLA underlines Agostinho Neto's commitment to the National Liberation Struggle, which culminated in Angola's Independence, on November 11, 1975. In the document, the MPLA highlights the fact that the legacy of the first President of Angola has been projected in the African and world context, on its own merit.
Within the framework of that date, the MPLA Politburo urges Angolans, with particular emphasis on the youth, to promote activities that enhance the patriotic education of citizens.
"The centenary of (...) President António Agostinho Neto is
celebrated a few hours after the inauguration ceremony of comrade João Lourenço for the second term as President of the Republic", the statement reads.
Support for President João Lourenço
The MPLA Political Bureau, the document continues, takes the opportunity to express "unconditional support" to the President of the Republic, encouraging him to remain firm in the implementation of the Democratic Rule of Law. It also encourages President João Lourenço to focus on Agostinho
Neto's dictum, that is “the most important thing is to resolve the people's problems”.
In the document, the MPLA encourages the new generations to study the life and work of Neto, as a way of increasing knowledge around the premises that make Angola impose itself in the context of nations.
Finally, the Politburo reaffirms the determination of MPLA militants, and others, to continue working so that that the political force continue to be the one that best interprets and satisfies the "deepest aspirations of the Angolan People".
