Luanda – Angola Foreign Affairs Minister Téte António on Sunday said the affirmation of multilateralism is the best option to deal with various challenges arising from the current international political context.
The Angolan ministry made the statement at the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Angola-European Union Joint Path, saying that the meeting was taking place in a context characterized by increasingly complex challenges facing states and their institutions.
Téte António said the 6th ministerial meeting was the expression of a qualitative step forward in the relationship between Angola and the EU, demonstrated by the quality of the talks and above all by the harmony that exists.
The meeting held behind closed doors, discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation and the current international landscape, with emphasis on regional issues regarding the efforts Angola has made in the southern Africa region, in the quest for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Central African Republic (CAR).
As part of the joint efforts between Angola and the EU, a bilateral cooperation agreement was signed for the disbursement of 10million Euros to support the formalization of the economy, including social protection and support for the management of public finances.
The instrument was signed by the Angolan Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João, and the head of the European Union delegation in Angola, Rosário Bento Pais.
Angola, in its capacity as chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) , expressed concern about the sanctions against Zimbabwe and encouraged continued dialogue to get them lifted.
Téte António emphasised the partnership and the positive steps taken with the signing of the agreement in Samoa, considering it the expression of a maturing relationship between the EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (OEACP), which Angola chairs.
The EU representative, João Cravinho, on his turn, said that it had been a fruitful and very useful meeting for the EU and Angola, as it served to take stock of the cooperation between the two sides and to plan actions for the future.
