Luanda - Angolan Foreign Affairs minister Téte António is since last Monday in Sao Tome and Principe to monitor the electoral process underway in that country, as part of the Angolan presidency of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP).
The Democratic Republic of São Tome and Principe held its legislative elections on 25 September. Provisional results released recently gave victory to Independent Democratic Action (ADI), led by former Prime Minister, Patrice Trovoada.
Téte António is expected to meet with local authorities, representatives of international organisations accredited in the country, as well as civil society, a press note has stated.
Upon his arrival, the Angolan top diplomat was received by the local officials, with stress to Edite Ten Jua, minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities of the archipelago.
In addition to Angola, which took over the rotating leadership of the CPLP in 2012, the institution comprises Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor.
With over 204,000 inhabitants, spread in an area of 1,001 square kilometres, Sao Tome and Principe is the second least populated country in Africa, after the Seychelles.
It is the smallest Portuguese-speaking country.
