Luanda – The Foreign Affairs minister, Téte António, received on Friday, in the Angolan capital, Luanda, the Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), João Caholo.
According to a press release, the meeting served as an opportunity for the two entities to discuss issues related to the organization's statutory meetings and matters related to the vacancy of the position of Executive Secretary.
Another relevant point discussed between the parties concerned the statutory contributions of the Member States, highlighting the
importance of each country in providing effective support for the functioning and success of the institution.
João Caholo seized the opportunity to invite the Angolan minister to make a working visit to the ICGLR headquarters, in Bujumbura, Burundi, to observe its functioning.
The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region is an intergovernmental organization founded on the basis of the Pact on
Security, Stability and Development of the Great Lakes Region.
The ICGLR is composed of 12 member states, namely Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
Its objective is to promote peace, security, stability and sustainable development in the Great Lakes Region of Africa.
The organization also seeks to resolve conflicts, strengthen democracy, protect human rights, encourage economic growth, promote regional integration and address humanitarian and social issues.
ICGLR also works for gender equality and the protection of women and children. VIC/TED/AMP
