Luanda - The ICGLR Electoral Observation Mission to the presidential elections in the Republic of Congo, scheduled for this Sunday (21st), was officially launched on Saturday, in Brazzaville, by the Angolan minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.
Headed by former Angolan Foreign minister Manuel Domingos Augusto, the mission responds to an invitation by the Government of the Republic of Congo to the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), to send an Observation Mission to monitor the presidential elections.
Angola heads the Mission in its capacity as acting chair of the ICGLR.
The ceremony was attended by the ICGLR Executive Secretary, Angolan Ambassador João Samuel Caholo, among other officials.
The sub-regional organization was created with the aim of solving issues of peace and security, after the political conflicts that marked the zone in 1994.
The ICGLR comprises Angola, Republic of the Congo, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
