Luanda - Peace and security in the Great Lakes Region was the focus of the meeting between the Angolan Foreign minister, Téte António, and the Special Envoy of the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region, Huang Xia, held Saturday, in Luanda.
According to a press release from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the meeting highlighted the political instability prevailing in the Eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The document states that for both diplomats, the situation in that DRC region continues to be considered of great concern and requires constant attention.
They also discussed the Nairobi declaration and all the diplomatic efforts that have been made, both by President João Lourenço, as “Champion of the African Union for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa”, and by other facilitators for the peace established by the African Union.
For Téte António and Huang Xia, the current situation of peace, security and regional conflicts are considered aspects that require a joint, adapted response capable of bringing conflict solutions.
The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region plays a central role in promoting peace, security and sustainable development, marked by armed conflicts, political instability and humanitarian crises.
