Luanda - Portuguese Foreign Minister João Cravinho praised the contribution of the former Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santos to strengthening cooperation relations between the states and in the Angolan reconciliation process.
The Portuguese official signed Friday at the Angolan Embassy in Portugal the book of condolences for the death of José Eduardo dos Santos, which occurred on the 8th of this month, in Barcelona, Spain, due to illness.
João Cravinho also spoke of the role of the statesman in the independence of southern African countries.
The condolence book was signed by MPs, ambassadors, including those from Russia, Greece, Dominican Republic, India, Brazil, Ireland, Iraq, Iran, Mozambique, Cabo Verde, East Timor and by the secretary general of the Portuguese Communist Party, Jerónimo de Sousa.
Friday, the Association of ANC Veterans in the Liberation Struggle expressed its solidarity with the deathof José Eduardo dos Santos.
Signing the condolence book at the Angolan Embassy in Pretoria (South Africa), its representative, Nokenzo Molai, highlighted the support given to the African National Congress in the fight against the South African apartheid regime.
He described José Eduardo as a humanist and visionary who always wanted peace and prosperity for African nations.
At the event, the ambassador of Angola to South Africa, Filomena Delgado, thanked the ANC veterans for the gesture and praised the brotherhood relationship between the peoples of Angola and South Africa over the years.
