Ondjiva - The Angolan Minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho, on Saturday in Ondjiva, Cunene province, guaranteed the continuous reinforcement of proximity policing, aiming to fight crime and return the feeling of security to the population.
Speaking at a press conference, on the sidelines of the Local Governance Council meeting, he said that operational actions, aimed at combating fuel smuggling, illegal immigration and others, constitute a challenge.
To this end, he said that there is a need for good coordination of the different defense and security bodies and the continuous participation of the population in a spirit of denunciation for the best performance of public security and the materialization of proximity policing.
“Citizens need to find favorable responses to defense and security bodies whenever they are in a dangerous situation, which is why greater proactivity and permanent interaction are essential,” he stated.
He recalled that as a result of the operational work carried out in the first half of the current year, it was possible to carry out 3,304 micro-operations of targeted searches, which resulted in the dismantling of 664 marginal groups, with the arrest of 7,885 suspects in the crimes.
The same action allowed the seizure of one thousand and 40 firearms, two million, 602 thousand and 331 liters of fuel, 17 kilograms and 219 grams of cocaine and one thousand and 508 supposed diamond stones and 260 heads of cattle.
