Luanda - The minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, is taking part this Sunday in Kampala, Uganda, in the 30th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the G-77 plus China, representing the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
The meeting, which is being held under the slogan "Leave no one behind", was opened by the host head of state, Yoweri Musseveni, who received the symbols of the Group's annual presidency from the hands of the vice-president of the Republic of Cuba, Salvador Valdés Mesa.
At the time, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, emphasised the importance of the Group of 77+China in the context of the United Nations, as it is the main promoter of South-South cooperation.
The thirtieth summit of Heads of State and Government of the G-77+China, which ends on Monday, adopted the organisation's work agenda, the report of the chairman of the meeting of senior officials and the final document of the Third South Summit.
The event aims to give a new impulse to cooperation between the 134 member states of the Group of 77 plus China in a more competitive world, with a view to boosting South-South Cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, poverty eradication and the digital economy.
The Group of 77 (G-77) was created on 15 June 1964 by 77 developing countries that signed the "Joint Declaration of the Seventy-Seven Developing Countries", which was issued at the end of the final session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) held in Geneva.
It is currently the largest coalition of developing countries in the United Nations, which allows the Group greater capacity for the South to articulate and promote its collective economic interests and strengthen its joint negotiating capacity on all major international economic issues in the UN system, including South-South Cooperation.
