Luanda - The Ministry of Interior (MININT) denied Wednesday in Luanda the rumors circulating on social media of "alleged involvement" of the personnel of the sector’s structures in drug trafficking.
National Director of Public Security of the National Police, Commissioner Orlando Bernardo, denied the allegations adding that there is no evidence that the information circulating on social media and other channels on involvement of the members of sector in drug trafficking is true.
Orlando Bernardo was speaking to the press at the end of the parliamentary hearing requested by the MPs of the National Assembly from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT).
The hearing was intended to assess, among other things, the issues related to drug, fuel, human trafficking and counterfeit money, authorised by the President of the Republic, as holder of executive power, João Lourenço.
According to the senior police officer, from what we know, to date, "there is no involvement of police personnel in drug trafficking".
Orlando Bernardo added that there is, in fact, a procedure that must be followed and that caution must be exercised when such questions are raised, stressing that the deputies have been informed of these facts.
Fight against drug trafficking
Commissioner Orlando Bernardo explained that the organs of the Ministry of the Interior are currently engaged in a vast campaign to combat drug trafficking.
In 2022, he added, there was an exponential increase in the fight against drug trafficking, a factor which he pointed out likely caused some antibodies that resulted in false accusations.
