Nouakchott – Angola’s Vice President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, held a courtesy meeting with the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, on Thursday in Nouakchott.
The meeting took place after the swearing-in ceremony of Mohamed Ould Ghazouani for a new five-year term.
Speaking to the press, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, said that the two entities addressed issues related to the potential of the two countries and the possibility of developing cooperation in the field of fishing industry and education.
For his part, the Mauritanian ambassador to Angola, Mohamed Mekhalle Ebade, said that the two countries have a solid relationship and thanked the Vice-President for her presence at the inauguration ceremony.
He called on Angolan and Mauritanian businessmen to invest in the two countries, noting that several agreements will be put in place.
Also on Thursday, the Vice-President held meetings with the Presidents of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló,
Gambia, Adama Barrowe, and Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, with whom he talked about the progress of the cooperation.
Likewise, Esperança da Costa discussed with the Deputy Prime Minister of Algeria issues related to political relations and the strengthening of exchange, within the scope of economic cooperation in various areas.
On the other hand, in a meeting with the Vice-President, the United Nations representative for West Africa, Leonardo Simão, praised Angola's role in resolving conflicts in Africa, with particular emphasis on the engagement in mediating the armed conflict between the DRC and Rwanda, which culminated, on Wednesday, with the agreement of a caesar-fire from the 5th of this month.
