Nouakchott - Angola and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania intend to boost effective cooperation, capable of responding to the challenges and needs of the two nations and bring their peoples closer together.
The two African states are currently cooperating in various sectors of interest, such as political and diplomatic affairs, agriculture and fisheries, energy and water, trade, mineral resources, security and others.
This cooperation is growing every year and appears to be at an excellent level, given that both have developing economies and can find opportunities to increase bilateral trade.
In fact, the presence of the Vice-President of Angola Esperança da Costa, at the inauguration of the re-elected President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, on August 1, proves the good level of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Despite the progress already made, the two countries plan to take another significant step towards consolidating bilateral cooperation, taking into account Angola's strategic position in the region.
The Mauritanian authorities have manifested interest in increasing economic cooperation in various sectors of the Angolan economy, by proposing a Framework Agreement and a memo in several sectors such as Fisheries, Defense, Security, Trade, Transport, Industry, Education, Higher Education, Scientific and Technical Research, Vocational Training, Culture, Hydraulics and Tourism.
Mauritania has large deposits of iron ore, which account for almost 50% of the country's total exports, several gold and copper mining companies, as well as mines in the interior of the country, whose potential and experience can be used by Angola.
The Islamic country operates hugely in the fishing sector, which accounts for 45% of the nation’s exports, along with renewable energies, areas in which Angola has been investing heavily over the last six years.
Angola can share its skills in mining and Mauritania, on the other hand, can offer experience in the fishing sector and renewable energies.
Cooperation
Relations between Angola and Mauritania are considered good, aligned in the interests of increasing political-diplomatic and commercial cooperation.
Cooperation between the two countries began on December 2, 1987 and has made significant progress since 2007, as a result of the mission carried out by Ambassador Hermínio Escórcio, which culminated in meetings with the Mauritanian authorities.
