Rabat - The Angolan and Moroccan parliaments signed Tuesday in Rabat, Morocco's capital, a parliamentary agreement as part of the working visit of the Speaker of Angola's National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, to the Maghreb country.

The agreement signed by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco, Rachid Talbi Alami, aims essentially at strengthening parliamentary cooperation between both countries, focusing on the exchange of experience in different fields.

The agreement also aims to stimulate bilateral cooperation and friendship and to promote the historical relations between the two peoples.

In this regard, the Angola´s parlimentary Carolina Cerqueira, promised her firm commitment to guarantee the strengthening of the interaction and exchange mechanisms, through information sharing and mutual regular consultation between the two institutions.

The Speaker of the Angolan Parliament said that the agreement represents a major advance in strengthening parliamentary cooperation, focusing on sustainable development, the defence and promotion of peace, fighting climate change, the energy crisis, poverty, promotion of youth autonomy, women's equality and improve the population's living conditions, as well as staff training and consultation on major issues on the world parliamentary agenda.

According to Carolina Cerqueira, this is also a new open page in the cooperation between the two parliaments, in particular, and in general between Angola and Morocco, which will deserve special attention with the establishment of the friendship group focused on promoting the way to go together.

Carolina Cerqueira also pointed to the need to promote dialogue as a way to resolve conflicts, having highlighted the actions of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço in the pacification of the Great Lakes Region and the Eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

To her, peace, security and peaceful coexistence, respect for human rights and tolerance are fundamental to the development of populations, which is why parliaments must play a key role in parliamentary diplomacy.

On his turn, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco, Rachid Talbi Alami, expressed the willingness of the Moroccan Parliament to work with Angola in several sectors.

Rachid Talbi Alami, who confirmed his presence in the 147th forum of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, to be held next October this year in Luanda, praised Angola´s role in the peaceful resolution of the crises in the DRC and the Great Lakes Region.

The parliamentary official also highlighted the agreement signed with the Angolan parliament, since, in his opinion, it reinforces the cooperation between the two countries, whose ties of friendship date back to the 1960s, during Angola's liberation struggle.

In addition to the agreement signed with the Moroccan Chamber of Deputies, the Angolan parliamentary delegation made up of deputies Alcides Sakala, Lourdes Caposso and Narciso Benedito, as well as the secretary general of the National Assembly, Agostinho Nery, held meetings with the minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and the president of the Chamber of Advisors, Naam Miyara.

However, Tuesday´s agenda also included a visit to the Mausoleum of King Mohammed V, during which Carolina Cerqueira honoured the monarch by laying a wreath.
