Luanda - The new vice-president of the ruling MPLA, Mara Quiosa, on Tuesday in Luanda stated that she will focus on putting new dynamics into the party's grassroots structures.
Speaking to the press, after being elected to the position, she promised to work harder so as not to defraud the trust placed on her by the party leader, João Lourenço.
“In fact, we have some experience, but nothing compared to what we must accomplish now, but yes, we will continue to work, help our comrade president on this journey, continuing to express our unconditional support for our leader”, she expressed.
She argued that the challenge is to continue working and keep maintaining party cohesion, as well as paying full attention to the female league (Angolan Women's Organization “OMA”) and the youth wing (JMPLA), which also have a great responsibility in carrying out work related to strengthening the party.
She emphasized that the party remains organized and cohesive, "we have all our organizations in full operation, what we will continue to do now is this monitoring, which in some way has already been happening".
Mara Quiosa was elected at the extraordinary meeting of the party's Central Committee with 585 votes, corresponding to 95.7% of the valid votes.
In turn, the outgoing vice-president, Luísa Damião, said she had fulfilled the mission entrusted to her by the party leader with zeal and sense of mission.
“For six years we were at the head of the party's vice-presidency, we fulfilled our mission with zeal and dedication, we have to thank President João Lourenço for the trust he placed on us during that period”, she highlighted.
She acknowledged that being the first woman to hold the position of vice president of the party weighed heavily on her shoulders.
