Luanda - The former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Manuel Augusto, has been awarded the degree of Gold Knight of Equatorial Guinea, for his decisive role in the accession of this Central African country to the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), ANGOP learned on Saturday.
According to a note, during the ceremony, held on July 30 in Malabo, Manuel Augusto received a medal and diploma from the hands of the Head of State of Equatorial Guinea, Obiang Nguema Basogo.
The event took place as part of the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the country's accession to the CPLP, which took place at the Dili Summit (Timor-Leste).
During the ceremony, the President of the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe and Acting President of the CPLP, Carlos Vilanova, and the former statesman of this country, Fradique de Meneses, among other individuals, were also awarded.
The Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries was created on 17 July 1996 in Lisbon and consists of nine Member States (Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Portugal, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste). MCN/DOJ
