Ramiros – A total of 3,292 members of the National Police (PN) completed, this Wednesday, at the Higher Institute of Police and Criminal Sciences “Osvaldo Serra Van-dúmen”, in Luanda, the 20th basic course, which, for a year, empowered them to ensure the safety of communities.
The course began in February 2023 and took place simultaneously in the regional centers Norte (Malanje), Centro (Huambo) and the Army troop training center, the municipality of Matala, Huíla province.
During the training, participants were provided with knowledge on subjects related to “Interpersonal communication”, “Health and hygiene and first aid”, “Police technique”, “United order” and “Notions of criminal law and criminal procedure”, and in the solemn closing session, 3rd level agents were promoted.
In addition to the more than three thousand officers, who completed basic police training, another contingent of 333 officers completed the Advanced Course in Criminal Investigation Techniques and Tactics and Procedural Instruction, started in May 2023, which, in the end, were promoted and patented to sub-inspectors.
During the closing ceremony, as part of the celebrations of the 48th anniversary of the National Police (PN), the general commander, Arnaldo Carlos, stated that, since 2002 to date, the corporation has been marked by the definition and execution of the modernization strategy and development, which has allowed significant results to be achieved.
According to the PN's General Commander, in recent years the corporation has taken significant steps towards its modernization and development.
According to Arnaldo Carlos, in the field of human resources, measures are being implemented that aim to consolidate and develop personnel management as a fundamental element of the corporation, giving priority to the effective implementation of the system of competitions and courses for career progression.
The police chief recalled that, in the last six months, over 20,000 employees were promoted, including more than 1.700 senior officers, 6,000 junior officers, 10,000 deputy chiefs and another 2,000 agents.
He also stated that the corporation has a robust police education system, with emphasis on the practical police school, with several basic police training centers, a police academy whose mission is to train mid-level police technicians, as well as a Higher Institute of Police and Criminal Sciences.
National Police Day is celebrated every year on February 28th, because it was on this date that, in 1976, the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, presided, at the Mártires do Kapolo Police School, in Luanda, over the ceremony of oath of the initial contigent of 383 personnel.
