Dundo - Six hundred and forty-five citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) tried to violate the Cuango, Caungula, Chitato and Lóvua border posts, to enter Angolan territory and settle in diamond mining areas.
The information was provided today, Monday, by the technician from the Office of Institutional Communication and Press of the Provincial Command of the National Police, Alexandre Pereira, stressing that the individuals were detained during the “Raio X” operation.
He added that they tried to use Fiote paths, with the help of some Angolan citizens, with still unknown identities, to enter the national territory.
In addition to the diamond mining areas, which have been the main attractions of illegal immigration in that region, the aforementioned citizens intended to reach the country's capital, Luanda, supposedly in search of better living conditions.
The source assured that defense and security bodies in Lunda Norte will continue to be “relentless” in the fight against illegal immigration, as it poses a danger to national sovereignty and the economy, as many immigrants end up dedicating themselves to diamond mining.
Therefore, the police officer appealed to the population to collaborate with defense and security bodies, denouncing, above all, citizens who help this phenomenon, pretending to be relatives of immigrants.
Operation “Raio X” aims to combat immigration and the illegal exploitation of diamonds, fuel smuggling, human trafficking, among other crimes.
The province of Lunda Norte shares a land and river border with the DRC, with a length of 770 kilometers.
