Dundo – At least 574 citizens from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were arrested during a police micro-operation conducted in eastern Lunda-Norte for illegally entering and staying in Angolan territory.
The information was disclosed on Wednesday by the local National Police spokesperson, Domingos Muanafumo, adding that the arrests took place in the operational territories of Cuango, Caungula, Lóvua, Chitato and Cambulo.
According to the spokesperson, most of the immigrants have settled in diamond-growing areas to conduct illegal diamond exploration and that, following administrative and migratory procedures, the immigrants were repatriated to their country of origin.
The Police spokesperson said that during the micro-operation, which took place last weekend, a total of 9,685 liters of smuggled fuel were seized, destined for the DRC.
