Namacunde - Two hundred and 27 unexploded explosive devices were destroyed on Sunday in the commune of Chiedi, municipality of Namacunde in Angola’s southern Cunene province by “VC Horizonte 21” demining company.
Among the artifacts destroyed are anti-tank mines, anti-personnel mines, 60- and 82-mm howitzers, RPG-7 rockets, aviation bombs, grenades, beaver shells and ammunition of various calibers.
Speaking to the press, the administrator of VC Horizonte 21 company, Cesário Canjulu, said that the destroyed devices were deactivated in 654 points of interest for soil collection, in the Etosha-Okavango basin, in the province.
He stated that the demining, carried out from December 2023 to May this year, made it possible to clear an area of one million, 412,500 kilometers in Chiedi and Ruacana.
“Once the western portion of the province of Cunene is complete, we will now deploy the teams to the eastern side, in Cuando Cubango, then in Moxico, all within the scope of the Etosa-Okavango project,” he stated. PEM/LHE/DOJ
