Addis Ababa - Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, from Djibouti, was elected, on Saturday, Feb 15, head of the African Union (AU) Commission, following the organization's 38th Summit of Heads of State and Government.
Ali Youssouf was elected with 33 votes in favor, thus reaching a 2/3 majority, in accordance with the rules and procedures of the Organization, in a meeting chaired by the new president of the AU, João Lourenço, who took over the organization's destiny on Saturday.
Djibouti's minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation replaces Moussa Faki Mahamat, from Chad, who served the continental organization for eight years, corresponding to two terms.
On the occasion, the Angola minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, congratulated the new president of the African Union Commission.
