Luanda - The Spanish justice system closed the investigation into the death of former Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos, confirming that it was due to natural causes, according to a decision by a Barcelona Court.
The decision of the Court of Barcelona is due to the fact that it concluded that José Eduardo dos Santos died of "exclusively natural causes" on the 8th of July, as the initial conclusions of the autopsy had already determined.
The judicial investigation was opened following a complaint by some children of the former President of Angola, who invoked the possibility that their father had died due to
negligence in the care provided to him by his personal doctor and his widow, Ana Paula dos Santos.
In the decision known this Tuesday, 4, the judge states that "the lack of evidence of said crime, in view of
the definitive autopsy report and the health documents included in the case file, lead to the provisional closure and the shelving of the case".
"There are no elements that allow us to consider that he was not given care at any time", reads the decision of the Court of Barcelona. José Eduardo dos Santos, who ruled Angola from 1979 to 2017, died at the age of 79 at the Teknon Clinic in Barcelona, where he was hospitalized after suffering a cardiac arrest on 23 June.
