Luena – The Moxico District Court ordered, on Wednesday (March 12), the preventive detention of the largest opposition party UNITA’s provincial secretary, Afonso Baptista Dumba, on suspicion of criminal association, ANGOP has learned.
The arrest warrant was issued last Friday (March 7) by the Attorney General's Office (PGR), on suspicion of getting involved in a criminal association.
According to a source to which ANGOP had access, Afonso Bumba is being investigated by the Public Prosecutor's Office for Money counterfeiting and allegedly resorting to the assistance of a wizard.
"He was found with Akz 1.206.000 (USD 1.320,16), an amount that would be duplicated, in addition to other seized means", he said.
After questioning, Afonso Dumba was sent to the Moxico jail, where he is serving preventive detention.
Afonso Baptista Dumba has been serving as UNITA's provincial secretary since 2022, succeeding politician João Muzaza Caweza, now a member of the National Assembly for the Moxico constituency.
