Cuito - The president of the Constitutional Court (TC), Laurinda Prazeres Monteiro Cardoso, on Monday, warned young people to be aware of the importance of the Constitution, as it is the fundamental legal structure of the State.
The judge was speaking in the city of Cuito, Bié province, at the opening of the round table, as part of the celebration of the 14th anniversary of the promulgation of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola (CRA), which takes place Monday, the 5th.
“In a context of social changes and technological advances, understanding rights and obligations enables young people to actively participate in society, promotes informed citizenship, respect for laws, the defense of individual rights, as well as protecting collective and public assets” , he highlighted. Knowledge of constitutional values contributes to the formation of critical consciousness and the strengthening of the democratic political regime, she said.
In its opinion, it is the TC's conviction that the mechanisms for protecting fundamental rights, freedoms and guarantees must increasingly assume a social and participatory nature, so that, together with society and their respective recipients, they can be the subject of an approach simple and pedagogical, thus increasing the literacy of the Constitution of the Republic.
To this end, the Constitutional Court has promoted debates, in order to make the Constitution an important instrument of national unity, a channel of communication, of frank and functional dialogue between institutions and society in general.
The idea is to bring the CRA closer to the entire social stratum, with the sharing of the Magna Law in various formats, whether in comics, to reach children, or in national languages, aiming for greater social inclusion. The objective is to make the entire population, including children and young people, learn, with a certain creativity, about constitutional principles and values, about their rights, freedoms and fundamental guarantees, as well as national symbols.
TC judge suggests institutionalization of National Symbol Day The advisor judge of the Constitutional Court (TC) Gilberto Magalhães suggested the need for the country to institutionalize the day of the National Symbol, on 11 November, aiming to increase Angolan patriotism. Speaking at the round table, she stressed that such an act will contribute to the recovery of civic, moral and patriotic values.
Addressing the related topic of the importance of national symbols, Gilberto Magalhães also requested the imperative of more dissemination of the symbols enshrined in the Constitution, such as the Insignia of the Republic, the National Anthem and the Flag, as they constitute the affirmation of the State.
Gilberto Magalhães urged, on the other hand, the need for the Ministry of Education, through provincial governments, to reinforce the culture of singing the National Anthem in school institutions. In another aspect, the judge advisor to the Constitutional Court Carlos Teixeira, who addressed the issue of fundamental rights, highlighted the principle of human dignity as a guide for the CRA, which is the pillar of the Rule of Law and Democracy.
However, sociologist Adilson Pinto recommended the need to further disseminate the Constitution in the most distant areas of the country, as a way of enabling it to become an instrument of belonging for the people.
The country marks 14 years since the entry into force of the current Angolan constitutional order, established as a result of the approval and promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, an achievement of the young Angolan democracy, as a universe of principles, rights and guarantees were consecrated by the Constituent Legislator fundamental principles that have contributed to strengthening the Democratic Rule of Law in Angola. It is the result of a historic constitutional process that went through several metamorphoses and underwent a specific review in 2021, which aimed to reinforce the basic foundations of the Angolan State, anchored in democratic principles and the separation and interdependence of powers. Meanwhile, the governor of the province of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, said that this event will improve the legal culture of citizens.
Still within the scope of the event, on Tuesday, in the municipality of Andulo, the president of the Constitutional Court (TC), Laurinda Prazeres Monteiro Cardoso, guides the Constitution's Ondjango program, which will be a conversation between judges and the population, with the aim of bringing the constitution closer to the common citizen.
