Addis Ababa - Angola's Josefa Sacko, outgoing African Union (AU) Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment, was honoured in Addis Ababa with an AU medal of honour and diploma of merit.
At the award ceremony, which took place on the sidelines of the 38th African Union (AU) Summit of Heads of State and Government, which ends on Sunday in the Ethiopian capital, the Commissioner received the honour from the hands of the outgoing chairman of the AU, Mohamed Oud Ghazouani, President of Mauritania.
The outgoing chairman of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat and the AU Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Industry and Mining, Albert Muchanga, were also honoured with the same distinction.
In London, the Angolan diplomat Josefa Sacko, was recently named one of the 100 most influential people in climate policy by the international peer platform called “Apolitical”, that supports efforts to influence climate policy around the world.
Her work was also recognised by “Avance Media”, one of Africa's leading media and public relations agencies, which includes distinguished women whose work and achievements continue to inspire the next generation of women on the continent.
The agency's list is made up of 100 women from 35 African countries who are working to change views as well as challenging the current status of women in Africa.
Josefa Sacko, who served two terms in four years as Commissioner of the African Union, also worked for 13 years as Secretary General of the Inter-African Coffee Organisation (IACO) in Côte d'Ivoire.
