Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, expressed, this Thursday, regret for the death of the former chief of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) for the operational and development area, general Jorge Barros "Nguto", occurred Wednesday in Luanda, due to illness.
"With great regret I received the unfortunate news of the passing away of General Jorge Barros 'Nguto', who for 47 years served the armed arm of the Angolan people," the President of the Republic wrote in a message of condolence.
João Lourenço said that, having studied Armoured Troops in Russia, the late general had held important positions in the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), including deputy to the chief of the general staff for operational and development areas and chief of the army staff.
"His premature loss, when he could still give much to the Angolan homeland, has saddened his family, friends and comrades in arms. I express my deepest condolences to all of them," the statesman stresses in his message.
With a long career in the service of the FAA, General Jorge Barros "Nguto" passed to retirement, due to age limit, in 2019, determined by Presidential Decree No. 345, of the Commander-in-Chief of the FAA, João Lourenço.
