Luanda – Angolan President João Lourenço has expressed sadness over the death of Angolan journalist Gustavo Costa, that occurred in the early hours of Friday in Luanda, victim of illness.
"You sent me a message recently expressing your interest in participating in the feast of democracy", wrote João Lourenço on his account on the social network Twitter. "We did not have time to talk about it and even less to say goodbye”, Lourenço added.
The Angolan President, in his message refers to Gustavo Costa as "friend of Silva Porto", former name of the current city of Cuito, capital of the central Bié Povince, and wished that his soul may rest in peace.
Gustavo Costa, who died at the age of 63, began his career in journalism in the 1970s.
He worked for the public daily newspaper Jornal de Angola, military sports newspaper JDM, and the Portuguese sports newspaper Record.
He was also one of the founders of Novo Jornal (Angola), where he signed the weekly column "Palavra de Honra", and, at the time of his death, he was the correspondent in Angola of the weekly Portuguese newspaper Expresso.
Gustavo Costa won the National Journalism and the Maboque Journalism Awards.
