Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, congratulated Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno on his recent victory in the elections for the post of President of the Republic of Chad.
In a message sent to Idriss Déby Itno, the Head of State considers that the result of the election is ‘recognition that the actions he carried out as President of the Transitional Military Council of the Republic of Chad revealed his high qualities as a leader who is always committed to realising the great goals of progress, well-being and prosperity in Chad’.
I would like to express my wish that the Republic of Angola and the Republic of Chad continue to maintain the positive dialogue that has been established between our governments, with a view to strengthening existing cooperation relations, both bilaterally and multilaterally, within the framework of ECCAS, in order to boost the development of our respective nations,’ wrote President João Lourenço in his congratulatory message.
The Foreign Affairs Minister, Téte António, travelled to N'djamena, the capital of Chad, on Thursday to represent the Angolan Head of State at the swearing-in ceremony of Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.
Idriss Déby won the presidential elections on 6 May in the first round with 61.03 % of the vote, beating his main rival, the former opposition leader and prime minister since last January, Succès Masra, who won 18.53 % of the vote.
