Luanda - Angolan president João Lourenço Thursday discussed with President of the Sovereign Council of Sudan, General Abdel Fatah Al-Burhan, the current situation in that country, in which the Angolan statesman calls for a ceasefire.
In telephone conversation, João Lourenço expressed Angola's solidarity with the Sudanese people and regretted the consequences of the conflict, states a note published on Presidency Facebook page, from London, where he is on an official visit.
Since the start of deadly clashes in Sudan, hundreds have been killed.
The conflict also caused large-scale internally displacement and vast damage to infrastructure.
Still in telephone conversation, the Angolan Head of State encouraged the two sides to stick to ceasefire dialogue, as the only way out of the conflicts.
Angolan leader welcomed the initiative of President Salva Kiir of South Sudan aimed to promoted a dialogue between General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and General Mohamed Hamdani Dagalo, with the latter, until the outbreak of the conflict, held the position of Vice President of the Sovereign Council.
