Luanda - President João Lourenço took over this Thursday, for another five years, the highest magistracy of the Angolan State, in an act witnessed by around 15,000 national guests and 50 foreign delegations, including dozens of Heads of State and Government.
At the ceremony, which took place at the Repulic Square, in Luanda, Esperança da Costa was also invested in the
position of Vice-President of the Republic, within the framework of the elections of 24 August.
The high point of the ceremony, marked by symbolism and emotion, took place precisely at 11:50 am, when President João Lourenço signed the Term of Investiture, in three copies, ratified by the presiding judge of the Constitutional Court, Laurinda Cardoso.
After signing the Instrument of Investiture, the presiding judge of the Constitutional Court, Laurinda Cardoso, presented President João Lourenço with the medal and presidential necklace (symbols of power) with his right hand on the Constitution of the Republic, João Lourenço took the oath to the Nation and the judge presiding over the Constitutional Court proceeded to read the term of office.
With this act, João Lourenço assumed, for the second time, the highest magistracy of the Angolan State, under the watchful eye of national and international guests, especially the Heads of State and Government of several countries.
The same procedures were observed for the inauguration of of the elected Vice-President, Esperança da Costa.
After taking the oath, President João Lourenço and Esperança Costa received a standing ovation from those present.
Heads of State Witness Investiture
Among the statesmen present at the inauguration, the heads of State of the Portuguese Republic, Congo (Brazzaville), Democratic Republic of Congo, and Cabo Verde, respectively Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Denis
Sassou Nguessou, Félix Tshisekedi and José Maria Neves.
"By electing the MPLA, their candidate, they bet on continuity as a sure way to guarantee peace, stability and the economic and social development of the country (...)", he expressed.
President João Lourenço promised more jobs for Angolans, mainly for youth, more primary and secondary
hospitals, schools, more electricity, road rehabilitation, among other social infrastructures.
