Lubango - The Head of State, João Lourenço, announced Wednesday the construction, in Luanda, of a large hospital unit for the treatment of oncological diseases.
The announcement was made in the City of Lubango, southern Huila Province, after the Head of State re-inaugurated the Irene Neto Maternity Hospital, a unit with 122 beds.
“We cannot do everything at once”, said President João Lourenço, assuring that the Angolan government will start construction of a large oncological hospital in Luanda.
João Lourenço said on the occasion that the construction of cancer hospitals in other parts of the country would be a second step.
To the Head of State, with the re-inauguration of the Irene Neto Maternity Hospital, taking into account its usefulness, will significantly help the reproductive health of women in the centre-south region of the country.
He said that the Angolan government intends to provide women with safer and more hygienic births, as well as continuing to support the population with dignity, especially women.
The Angolan President stressed the fact that the Irene Neto Maternity Hospital in Lubango was inaugurated on 8 March, a special day that marks International Women's Day.
Recovery of National Road 105
The Head of State assured that the rehabilitation of the National Road 105, a road that connects Huíla to the north of the country, will definitely take place.
He acknowledged that the current situation of the road has created great constraints to those who pass through it, hence the decision to rehabilitate this section that is considered important, like all national roads.
Meanwhile, in relation to the extension of the Cunene River water project to Huíla, President João Lourenço said that it is one of the government´s concerns, and said that the process is at the stage of mobilisation of funding.
“We know that the Lubango City is growing. The population has increased considerably and for that reason the demand for water is growing”, noted the Head of State.
