Luanda - The Head of State of Angola, João Lourenço, on Tuesday discussed with the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, the prevailing crisis in the relationship between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.
According to a statement issued by the Press Office of the Head of State, during the telephone conversation, both officials considered urgent the holding of the Luanda Summit, between the mediator (Angola) and the Heads of State of DRC and Rwanda.
According to the document, João Lourenço decided to send, on Wednesday, the minister of Foreign Affairs to Dakar (Senegal), to present to that country’s Head of State Macky Sall, as acting Chairman of the African Union, an oral note on the steps taken by Angola in the fulfillment of the mandate of Malabo Summit.
Last Wednesday (9th) the DRC released two Rwandan soldiers following diplomatic steps taken by the Angolan President, João Lourenço.
The release is part of the Angolan Head of State´s efforts to reduce the tension between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
João Lourenço also obtained from the Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, the guarantee to release the Congolese-democratic citizen Patrick Bala, arrested in Rwanda for whom Antoine Felix Tchisekedi Tshilombo interceded.
