Mbanza Kongo - Ninety-seven citizens from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were questioned on Wednesday by Police Border in northern Zaire province (Angola) for attempting to illegally enter the national territory.
Of this figure, 58 are men and 39 women, who were intercepted at the border check points of Buela, Luangu, Nóqui, Kinsende, Ntoyo, Kanga, Mpozo and Luvo, the spokesman for the Provincial Delegation of the Interior, Sérgio Afonso, told the press on Thursday.
According to the source, the illegal immigrants intended to settle in the territory of the province of Zaire and then reach the country's capital, Luanda.
"Many foreigners enter the national territory for commercial purposes and the other for rampant slaughter of trees and animals", he said.
Also Wednesday, the Border Police thwarted fuel smuggling attempt to DRC.
Angola shares border with DRC through four municipalities of the northern province of Zaire.
They are Mbanza Kongo, Soyo, Cuimba and Nóqui, totaling 310 kilometres.
