Mbanza Kongo – Seventeen citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) who intended to enter the national territory illegally were intercepted Monday by the Border Guard Police, in the province of Zaire.
In a note sent on Wednesday to ANGOP, in Mbanza Kongo, the Zaire Provincial Command of the National Police informs that, during Christmas, six cases of border violations were recorded at the posts of Nóqui, Kinguvo, Marco-11 and Mpozo.
After operational interrogations, the note also states, the aforementioned illegal immigrants were repatriated through the same channels.
It adds, on the other hand, that in the same period, Border Guard Police forces seized 2,500 liters of fuel in the Santo António river channel, in the municipality of Soyo, for alleged smuggling of petroleum derivatives.
Packed in 250 liter containers, the product was destined for the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
Last weekend, the provincial commander of the National Police, Commissioner Firmino Uyamba, called on Border Guard personnel to redouble their vigilance along the border with the DRC, during the festive season.
When addressing the forces of the provincial delegation of the Ministry of the Interior on parade, the delegate from this sector in the region also called for discipline and a spirit of mission to counter possible infractions during the festive season, with emphasis on illegal immigration and fuel smuggling.
He explained that a contingency plan is in force, drawn up by the General Command of the National Police and directed to the northern region of the country in the event of a possible change in public order along the border with the DRC.
Four of the six municipalities in the province of Zaire, namely Mbanza Kongo, Cuimba, Soyo and Nóqui, share a border with the DRC, covering a length of 310 kilometers
Of the 310 kilometers of common border, 120 are land and 190 are river, through the Zaire River. JL/DOJ
