Luanda - The acting president of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) João Lourenço pledged Thursday in Luanda to mobilise resources for infrastructure, roads, railways, ports and airports, with investments in the water and energy sectors.
João Lourenço, who took over the leadership of this inter-governmental organisation, said these two goods (water and energy) are crucial for industrialisation in the SADC region.
To the President, one of the region's commitments is linked to human capital, to ensure greater performance, in the coming years, with "quite seriousness" in the industrialisation of the region and the continent.
Speaking at a press conference at the end of the 43rd Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, João Lourenço stated that industry can only be discussed in locations where water and energy are guaranteed.
Therefore, the acting President of SADC defended the need for some countries to dedicate themselves to increasing production and sharing this essential good with the other members of the organisation.
“Whoever has excess energy should make it available to other countries in the region that need it”, defended the Angolan Head of State, reiterating that the bet has been made and work remains to be done to try to materialise the decisions that the Summit took.
On the legacy to be left in fulfilling the presidency of SADC, João Lourenço said that he will dedicate himself to complying with the decisions taken by the Luanda Summit, in all areas, with emphasis on economic and social development, as well as defence and security of the countries of the organization.
“Fortunately, with the exception of situations in eastern DRC and Cabo Delgado, in Mozambique, in general the situation in our region can be considered stable,” he said.
Angola fulfills the agreements
On Angola's regional integration, João Lourenço referred that the country has subscribed to all agreements in the region that have to do with regional integration.
According to the President, the country will seek to respect, as much as possible, its compliance, being aware that Angola will only gain if this integration effectively takes place.
This time, he defends that each Member State contributes to the achievement of this objective of regional integration. NE/OHA/ADR/NIC
