Luanda - The inauguration of the Satellite Control and Mission Centre, by the Angolan President, João Lourenço, which was to happen on Monday, has been postponed for Friday, an official source has said.
The president’s agenda had led to the re-scheduling of the act for Tuesday, now it’s been moved to Friday, said the source.
The inauguration of the centre, located in the Funda locality, outskirts of Luanda Province’s northern area, is part of the National Space Strategy following the successful launch in orbit of the country’s ANGOSAT-2 satellite.
The premise occupies a total of 6.617 square kilometres, comprising 3 floors, 47 compartments properly equipped with technical and technological means.
The Satellite Control and Mission Centre is an intelligent infrastructure with multiple engineering advantages, capable of guaranteeing the follow-up, monitoring and exploration of satellites, specifically the ANGOSAT-2.
ANGOSAT-2 is an Angolan communications satellite launched on October 12, 2022, at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, in orbit at position 23E.
With high data transmission rates, ANGOSAT-2 was designed and built with the participation of Russian and Angolan specialists, and it has the capacity to cover, through C-band, the entire African continent and a significant part of Southern Europe.
The satellite will contribute to the excellent and modern source of revenue generation, since ANGOSAT-2 provides coverage to a significant part of the African continent and of the European continent, and will greatly contribute to decreasing digital exclusion in Angola and Africa.
It will also help significantly in the expansion of telecommunication services to the most remote areas of the country at competitive price, as well as ensure greater development of tele-medicine, distant teaching, direct support to agricultural activity at national level and more.
It will also create job opportunities in areas linked to space technology, such as the maintenance and installation of VSAT antennas and the country's autonomy in developing and operating equipment, opening new scenarios for professionals and companies in the aerospace sector.
