Uige - At least 146 explosive devices, removed during the first half of this year, in Cangola municipality, in Uige province, were destroyed on Tuesday by the National Demining Institute (INAD).
According to the head of the INAD department in Uige, Eugénio Horácio, who was speaking during the destruction of the devices, the artefacts were deactivated in an area of 91,35 square metres.
Among the artefacts destroyed were grenades, howitzers, AKM ammunition, 82mm mortar shells, 60mm mortars, amongst others.
He also explained that during the first half of the year, INAD staff attended refreshing courses, and landmine clearance and mine risk education was held in the municipalities of Cangola, Púri, Bungo, Uíge, Quitexe and Ambuila.
According to the official, 1,639 people have been made aware of the risk of landmines in the province over the last six months.
During the first six months of the year a total of 246 explosive devices were removed in Uíge province.
