Ondjiva - Religious leaders in southern Cunene province have called for the preservation of public assets to allow the state to continue investing in the implementation of new social projects to improve the living conditions of the population.
Speaking to ANGOP on the sidelines of the inauguration of the province’s general hospital, the bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church stressed the need for awareness raise campaigns to be held for citizens to avoiding acts of vandalism of common goods.
Regarding the hospital, the bishop said that, in addition to providing more specialized services, it represents a job opportunity for young people trained in the health area.
"The Ondjiva Hospital is a benefit for the province as it is the first reference hospital where residents will be able to receive more specialized and quality medical care. That's why we're calling for the preservation of this infrastructure and the state-of-the-art equipment installed," he said.
João Gimbi, provincial secretary of the Christian Churches Council in Angola (CICA) said the government's vision to expand and modernize health infrastructure represents a commitment to the health of Angolans.
He appealed to local population to report any acts of vandalism, so that the perpetrators are punished exemplarily.
"As a church we are grateful because it will limit the movement of patients, allowing for good quality medical care, as well as reducing deaths due to the lack of specialized services," he said.
