Huambo - Huambo province hosts on Friday the first national workshop for Young Leaders in Local Governance, an initiative of the Ministry of Territorial Administration, in partnership with the World Bank's Njila project.
The event, which will take place under the motto “Transforming communities with young and committed leadership”, will be attended by several leaders from the country's 18 provinces, a statement from the Ministry of Territorial Administration has said.
It aims to promote in-depth reflection on the need for positive interventions among young leaders who act and participate in the dynamics of governance, generating greater commitment and engagement to achieve better results in the local governance strategy.
In addition to training activities, the statement said, the event also plans to promote the ongoing sharing of knowledge and governance experiences through a mentoring project, with the aim of stimulating attitudes and behaviors in local management and participation, based on ethical, patriotic and citizenship values.
The city of Huambo, inaugurated by the then governor-general of Angola, the Portuguese general José Mendes Ribeiro Norton de Matos, on September 21, 1912, following an administrative order issued by decree no. 1040, dated 08 August of the same year, is the capital of the province of the same name, located on the Central Plateau of Angola, with just over 2.7 million inhabitants, spread over 11 municipalities.
