Luanda - The Ukrainian government expresses high praises for the position taken up by Angola in relation to the Russian conflict with the eastern European nation, the Ukrainian Foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, said on Thursday in Luanda Province.
The Ukrainian diplomat was speaking to the press, following an audience granted to him by the Angolan president, João Lourenço, as part of his visit to the contry.
Angola advocates the end of the war against Ukraine, through negotiations that respect the principles of Independence and State Sovereignty, in accordance with International Law and the Charter of the United Nations (UN).
In this vein, the Ukrainian leader on behalf of his government, thanked Angola's position, and also learned about the efforts undertaken by the Angolan government in the search for solutions that aim to contribute to peace on the African continent.
He stated that they need a firm and fair peace, adding that for this purpose the first International Peace Summit was held and preparations are underway for the second session, in which they intend to invite the Russian side to participate, expressing that in this sense their country needs the support of several countries like Angola.
The war in Ukraine, especially the invasion, began on February 24, 2022.

The humanitarian crisis in the wake of the invasion resulted in one of Europe's biggest crises since World War II, with millions of Ukrainians internally displaced or refugees in neighboring countries such as Poland and Moldova.
Bilateral cooperation
Within the framework of bilateral cooperation, Andrii Sybiha expressed his government's desire to strengthen relations in the sectors of agriculture, education and defense.
The Ukrainian diplomat discussed with the Head of State aspects linked to strengthening cooperation, at a time when the two countries celebrate 30 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Andrii Sybiha recalled that Angola and Ukraine have always had very close historical ties between their people, and stated that at this moment his government intends to work towards opening a new page in relations between the two countries.
