Luanda - The Angolan government on Friday welcomed the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) decision to lift the ban on the movement and transition of Angolan trucks with cargo from entering its territory.
According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) that reached ANGOP the end of the ban of trucks from Angola is once again allowed for imports of goods heading to Angola’s Cabinda province.
It adds that the measure follows an order signed on Thursday by the Minister of Transport and Communications and Deputy Prime Minister of the DRC, Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo.
Angolan authorities believe that the Congolese side is beginning to show signs of respect for the legal instruments signed between the two countries, including the provisions of the Road Transport Agreement, the statement said.
The lifting of the ban followed the actions of the Angolan authorities, in light of the unilateral position of the DRC authorities to ban the movement of Angolan truck drivers from Congolese territory to Cabinda.
The matter had led the Angolan Foreign Affairs minister, Téte António, to summon the Congolese ambassador, Kalala Mayiba Constantin, to express his deep displeasure at the inappropriate treatment of national truck drivers in the DRC, where he also reported that their rights had been violated. SC/AMP
