Ondjiva – The Attorney General's Office (PGR) in the Province of Cunene was encouraged, this Saturday, to continue combating crimes of theft and theft of cattle, vandalization of public property and environmental crimes.
The encouragement was given by the provincial governor of Cuenene, Gerdina Didalelwa, when speaking at the presentation of the new deputy prosecutor and coordinator of the Southern Judicial Region, Vanderley Mateus, during which she asked for special attention to crimes with a high incidence within communities.
According to the leader, the fight against crime must be carried out without any consideration, with the support of the population in reporting offenders, to defend legality, public security and social peace.
She said it is based on this spirit of “selfless work” that she calls on the new coordinator of the Southern Judicial Region to carry out his action with zeal and dedication, counting on the collaboration of the local government in the materialization of his duties.
Gerdina Didalelwa highlighted that the focus must be on combating crimes, particularly those that jeopardize the economic subsistence of families, the conservation and usefulness of public assets, public safety and those that harm the environment.
For this fight to gain strength and produce favorable results, she considered it necessary for justice services to be increasingly closer to citizens and respond to their concerns in a timely manner.
For his part, Vanderley Mateus said that, in carrying out his new functions, his actions will be focused on continuing and improving the work done and improving it.
He promised to pay special attention to strengthening institutional relations between the PGR and the provincial government, to promote a healthy relationship, aiming to materialize legal powers.
The ceremony, which took place in the Provincial Government auditorium, was led by the outgoing coordinating prosecutor and supervisor of the Southern Judicial Region, Hernâni Beira Grande, now appointed as advisor to the Attorney General of the Republic in the Province of Huíla.
Hernâni Beira Grande asked his replacement for transparency and dedication in directing and monitoring the activities of the judicial region.
Data from the PGR in the Southern Judicial Region indicate that 24,777 criminal cases were initiated in 2023.
