Benguela – The governor of Benguela province Luís Nunes, on Thursday said the visit of the Prime Minister of Portugal, Luis Montenegro, means a new boost for Portuguese investment in the region, as part of economic cooperation between the two countries.
The governor recognized that the visit would be beneficial for the province, since the Prime Minister brought with him some Portuguese businesspeople seeking to learn more about what Benguela has to offer in terms of business opportunities.
For Luís Nunes, the visit of the head of the Portuguese government to Benguela also demonstrates the privileged relations between Portugal and Angola.
“We continue to fight for these relations to become even better,” he stressed, pointing out that the Angolan government aims to attract some Portuguese investment to boost the national economy.
Asked about the complaints from users of the Consulate General of Portugal in Benguela, the governor promised to take up the matter with the competent authorities, with a view to overcoming the service constraints.
He also recalled that the Prime Minister stressed, during his visit to Angola, the need to speed up the granting of visas to Portugal for Angolan citizens.
Business environment
The governor assured that the business environment in Angola has been improving considerably to correct some of the obstacles facing Portuguese businesspeople, such as the repatriation of capital.
An example of this, the governor said, is the increasingly evident investment made by Portuguese entrepreneurs in our country and in Benguela province in particular.
“These are problems that are being overcome (...). Things are going to get better from now on,” concluded the Benguela provincial governor optimistically. JH/CRB/AMP
