Solwezi - The governor of the eastern Moxico Province, Ernesto Muangala, on Tuesday in the city of Solwezi, Zambia called on the Angolan community living in Zambia to respect local laws and maintain a healthy coexistence in the neighbouring country.
The governor was speaking during a meeting with the Angolan community living in the capital city of North-Western Zambia, where more than 600,000 Angolans live, including former refugees and residents.
"It is necessary to maintain a healthy coexistence with the laws of this country, our neighbour, so that they can respect us and guarantee living conditions, cooperation and partnerships," he said.
The governor, who is in Solwezi for the 2nd Moxico/Northwest Regional Cooperation and Cultural Exchange Forum, informed Angolan citizens living in the Zambian region about the progress the country is making with the reconstruction of the road infrastructure that will link Moxico to the neighbouring provinces of Zambia.
The official highlighted the advantages that the roads will bring for the free movement of people and goods, trade and stronger cultural, historical and social and economic relations with neighbouring countries.
In turn, the representative of the Angolan community in Solwezi, Mateus Kahaku, highlighted the governor's initiative to listen to Angolan residents, as well as asking for social support, agricultural inputs and means of transport for agricultural development.
According to Mateus Kahaku, the local population is willing to return to the country and contribute to its development, as long as they are guaranteed employability conditions, since the community has technical and professional staff capable of making up for the existing staff shortage.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Angolan Consulate General in Solwezi, in the north-western province of Zambia.
