Lubango – The ambassador of Ghana to Angola, Mavis Esi Kusorgbor, on Tuesday, in Lubango city, central Huíla province, said her country intends to share its experience in community health with Angola to help it achieve sustainable development.
Speaking at the end of a two-day visit to Huila, the Ghanaian diplomat said her country has experience in setting up community centers, a practice that it wants to share and to learn from Angola the practice of decentralizing the health system inside the communities.
The diplomat stressed that the health sector is an area in which Ghana can collaborate, since it is a fundamental issue for promoting sustainable development.
Mavis Esi Kusorgbor added that a memo of understanding focused on community health was signed during the 6th Bilateral Cooperation Commission held in February this year, and is now being discussed at Luanda level to see how it could be implemented.
"Many African countries are lagging behind in this regard, but it's a challenge and if we all work together we can overcome it. We also had some businessmen who visited Angola who intend to set up community tuberculosis testing stations," the diplomat said.
The situation with direct flights between Luanda/Accra is still a challenge
The Ghanaian ambassador regretted the fact that so far there is no direct flight between Luanda/Accra, a process that started in November 2022, through the Angolan airlines, but unfortunately the number of passengers does not satisfy the company, which has suspended operations.
Angola and Ghana share a common history in the struggle for national independence, having signed the first legal cooperation instruments in 1976.
In 2019 the two countries signed a memorandum in the education field, one on the functioning of the Bilateral Cooperation Commission and another on the suspension of visas in diplomatic and service passports.
The two countries have defined the lines for strengthening cooperation in the areas of agriculture, defense, fisheries, training, education, transport and the mining industry. MS/AMP
