Luanda - The secretary general of the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF) , Boemo Sekgoma, Tuesday in Luanda called for Angola's continued leadership in mobilizing other countries to sign the treaty on the automatic transformation of this body into a regional parliament.
Boemo Sekgoma made the statement after an audience with Angola National Assembly Speaker Carolina Cerqueira, which served to review regional cooperation regarding the SADC parliament and to prepare for the 55th plenary session to be held in the country, focused on renewable energies.
The meeting also aimed to reaffirm the National Assembly's commitment to the SADC Parliamentary Forum, as well as Angola's commitment to climate issues in the region.
According to the SADC-PF secretary, nine countries have already signed the treaty and Zambia is in the process of signing it, adding that only two countries remain to finalize the process, which will allow the Parliamentary Forum to be transformed into a regional parliament.
In this regard, Sekgoma said she is very confident in Angola's advocacy, since it is a respected country in the region.
Boemo Sekgoma said Angola will host the 16 member countries of the SADC from July 1 to 7 for a symposium in which the members would discuss the policies that states should prepare in the environmental field.
In her view, SADC policies on renewable energy need to be reviewed in order to make the environment friendlier.
